Prototype RULEBOOKS

These rulebooks are ONLY intended to be used if you are currently playing with one of the older prototype decks. Otherwise you should use the newer version found under the main header.
The prototype rulebooks are hierarchical, where each subsequent rulebook builds upon the previous ones. Each rulebook acts as a stepping stone, progressively enhancing the depth of the game while expanding the rules. The rules become increasingly more and more complicated as the realism of the games increases.

SELECTION & TRYOUTS

The basic rules for SOF: Direct Action. Tryouts is an introduction to the game that introduces game mechanics for new players.

Training

The first expansion of the advanced rules. Training introduces special card abilities, hidden missions and tactical movement, distinction between card types, and new cards including cyber attacks, new transports and tactics.

Operator

The second expansion of the advanced rules. Operator includes mission briefings to distinguish and diversify the missions, specialist task units, a holistic approach to the theory that the game is built on, and the need to consider intelligence, preparation and reconnaissance as integral parts of a special operation.

VETERAN

The third expansion of the advanced rules. Veteran expands the game with more emphasis on mission planning and requires an increased focus on strategy as players must simultaneously balance planning, execution, information management and risk acceptance, all the while the adversary’s options also expands correspondingly.
